Technology and Samoa do not mix

Just when you think you’re about to be over some kind of hurdle, Samoa manages to throw another one right back at you. Recently Samoa has been instituting some kind of electricity rationing. They shut off the power in various parts of Samoa for a certain amount of time. Starting last week, and continuing into this week, they have been shutting off the power in my district from 9:30 am ┬átil 3 pm every weekday. This has been very inconvient to someone trying to teach computers between the hours of 8 am and 1:30 pm. The kids have also been pissed about coming to class and seeing “ua pe le paoa” written on the board (The power is broken). Last week I spent alot of time playing hangman with the kids, to the point where now they know the words without guessing any letters. I need to teach them MS Word, so I’ve asked the kids to come in after 3 on weekdays, and on saturday, but I am expecting very low turnouts. This also means that I have less time to go into Apia and write blog posts/check my email, sorry.

I ended up going to Savaii for easter weekend. It was a great time, and a much needed vacation. There are only three full weeks of school left. The last week of school is reserved for “English Day” a sort of pagent where the students will put on songs and recite poems to show off their english skills. And then term 1 ends. During the break, my brother will be coming to visit, and we’ll be heading to New Zealand together. I can’t hardly wait! Anyway, here are some pictures from easter weekend.
